An update to connection status reporting and other minor improvements.
MyWX Pro (My weather station Pro) connects over your local LAN network or the Internet (WAN) to your WeeWX-based personal weather station (PWS) and periodically retrieves and displays current readings. Dedicate an old phone, or occasionally connect with your current phone. Note that the display will remain on while the app is running. In addition, MyWX Pro is compatible with tablets, but the display looks best on phones.
All readings displayed are up-to-date, except for Lows, Averages, and Highs, which are for the past 24 hours or for the Wind Average (10 minutes) and the Barometric Trend interval (3 hours). The date and amount of rainfall during the last rain event displays as well, which is great for gardeners. This Pro version graphically displays the temperature, wind, rain, and barometric reading trends for the previous 24 hours.
The WeeWX system must use MySQL (MariaDB), since the default SQLite database does not support remote access. Existing systems easily convert to MySQL; see WeeWX documentation. Remote access to the PWS’s database must be setup before MyWX Pro can connect (see below). This involves creating a MySQL (Maria DB) username and password that has access to the MySQL database, along with enabling remote access to this server. Note that the name for the database defaults to “weewx”, but you may specify another name if it is different from this WeeWX system default.
The MyWX Pro app converts the values obtained from the WeeWX device into the units appropriate for the local country (i.e., the Language and Input setting on the device). Multiple languages and countries are supported.
The connection to the WeeWX device via the local LAN is unprotected; therefore, it is highly recommended that you not use the LAN connection outside of your local home network. This happens by default since your local LAN IP address for the WeeWX device will not be accessible from outside your home network. Therefore, the connection is established over the secure and authenticated WAN link.
